Connie was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and grew up in Canton, Ohio. She loved art from a young age and was fortunate to have taken classes for many years at the Canton Art Institute and at Canton Central Catholic High School. Additionally, she studied privately with Canton artist, Mary Gibbons. Fascinated with the natural sciences, she graduated from the University of Akron with a undergraduate degree in biology, chemistry and physics, and Master’s degree in microbiology. Connie is currently the laboratory manager at the Stark Campus of Kent State University, where she recently received the Staff Excellence Award.
Throughout her life Connie has continued to draw, paint, and otherwise create. For many years she has led the team of volunteers who design, build, and paint sets and backdrops for Dynamics Community Theater in Tallmadge, Ohio. She was honored in 2011 by United Way of Summit County in celebration of her outstanding contribution of talent and service. Theater work provided Connie with the opportunity to guide many individuals to learn and enjoy painting, which sparked her desire to provide art opportunities in a relaxed social setting, thus the birth of Art Break in March of 2013.
Besides painting murals and smaller acrylic works, Connie enjoys diverse media including wax-resist dye methods, mosaics, decoupage, and pen-and-ink drawing. Through attending workshops and classes over the past several years, she has developed a strong sense of art-as-meditation. Zentangle™ and Intuitive Painting are a regular part of her personal spiritual practice. She has also pursued her creative life by writing, and her poetry has been published in numerous journals.
Connie is delighted to be able to offer the Art Break experience: breaking out of personal, corporate and social routines...breaking open hidden and underused creative energy....and taking a break for relaxation, fun, and art...for a change!
Connie and her wife Carolyn live in the Ellet neighborhood of Akron, Ohio. She has two sons and a daughter, who are all young adults.
